Wally Joyner went three for four and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. He’s 15 for 44 in that span and raised his batting average from .313 to .320. . . . Dave Parker’s first-inning single gave him an 11-game hitting streak. He’s 16-for-49 (.327) in that span and has gone from .198 to .222, his highest since he was hitting .237 on April 18. . . . Research shows that Dave Winfield became the oldest player to hit for the cycle when he did it Monday at 39 years, eight months 21 days. Cy Williams was 38 days younger when he hit for the cycle for the Phillies in 1927.

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
