From Staff and Wire Reports

Southland-based Exbourne took the lead from Fortyniner Days with about a sixteenth of a mile to run and won the $500,000 Caesars International on turf by a Sunday head at Atlantic City Race Course.

Exbourne, a 5-year-old horse owned by Saudi Arabian Prince Khalid Abdullah, covered the 1 3/16 miles in 1:52 3/5 under Chris McCarron. Goofalik was another 2 3/4 lengths back and a head in front of Chenin Blanc.

Double Book, co-high weighted with Exbourne at 122 pounds, finished fifth, suffering his first defeat in six starts this year. Completing the order of finish were Opening Verse and Runaway Raja.

Exbourne paid $4.60, $3.60 and $2.60 in winning for the fifth time in seven starts this year for trainer Bobby Frankel and Prince Khalid, who also teamed up to win the New England Classic with Marquetry Saturday at Rockingham Park.

Frankel’s hopes of winning major races on both coasts on the same day fizzled when his Mashkour finished last in the $270,900 Sunset Handicap at Hollywood Park. British-bred Black Monday, a non-winner in his three previous U.S. starts, rallied to win the 1 1/2-mile turf race.

Fourth choice in the field of seven, Black Monday raced third until the turn for home, when he passed 2-1 favorite Askar and the pace-setting Super May. Ridden for the first time by Corey Nakatani, Black Monday won in 2:26 and was a length ahead of Super May. Razeen took third, another 1 1/4 lengths back.

The 5-year-old Black Monday, who carried a low weight of 112, returned $14.60, $6.40 and $4.60.

Lech pulled away in mid-stretch and won the $118,600 Lexington Stakes for 3-year-olds in a stakes record 1:59 2/5 for the 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Belmont Park. Lech paid $10.40, $4.80 and $3.20.
