3 Injured in 5-Car Crash on Coast Highway

Three people were hospitalized Friday night after a five-car collision on Pacific Coast Highway.

The accident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. in the 400 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, Police Officer Glen Fisher said.

The pileup began when the driver of a Toyota heading west on the highway lost control of his vehicle, Fisher said, and drove over the center divider, colliding with a Cadillac.

The collision triggered a chain reaction with three other vehicles ramming into the wreck.

The injured were taken to Hoag Hospital, but their names and conditions were not immediately available.

William Moses, whose 1985 TransAm was involved in the accident, looked at the wreck disconsolately. He said he had recently moved to California from North Carolina and was moving from “motel to motel.”

“The other car (Celica) just appeared out of nowhere,” he said. “I just moved out here. My car is everything I own. What am I gonna’ do now?”
