Longshot Positive Spirit Wins Closing Feature at Los Alamitos
Positive Spirit came from last to win the featured Invitational Pace on closing night at Los Alamitos Saturday night. Positive Spirit got out of the gate second in the four-horse field, but was quickly overtaken by the two favorites, Mercury and Vance Lobell, at the quarter-mile pole.
Mercury took a short-lived lead past the quarter with Vance Lobell taking over at the three-eighths mark. Vance Lobell carried the field past the half in :56 2/5 and the three-quarters om 1:26 1/5.
Mercury tipped out at the three-quarters but faded on the final turn forcing Wait A Moment to go three-wide.
Jack Parker and Positive Spirit took advantage of Mercury’s poor performance and shot along the rail to be second turning for home, then split Vance Lobell and Wait A Moment at the top of the lane and outpaced Vance Lobell to the wire.
