From Staff and Wire Reports

A month and a half after folding the newspaper, the owners of the National, a sports daily, are talking with a potential buyer who could relaunch it in some fashion. Editor and publisher Frank Deford said that a decision on a sale might be made within a week. He declined to identify the potential buyer.

Deford was asked about a report in Advertising Age that said an unidentified publisher was the bidder who hoped to resurrect the paper.

The National, which was published for nearly 17 months until it was closed June 13, reportedly lost more than $100 million.
