TV Viewers Miss Part of Match
ESPN got into a jam Sunday, and the result was viewers missed a good portion of Jennifer Capriati’s victory over Monica Seles in the Mazda Tennis Classic.
ESPN blocked out an hour and a half, 2 to 3:30 p.m., for the tennis match, but that was hardly enough time.
The LPGA tournament ESPN was covering ran a little long, then the three-set tennis match lasted two hours.
Instead of pre-empting its 3:30 p.m. edition of SportsCenter or part of the one-hour “Baseball Tonight” program that followed, ESPN opted to edit down the tape-delayed tennis coverage.
Viewers missed almost the entire second set and the first seven games of the third.
