Pomona : Trash, Sanitation Fees Hiked
The City Council has approved a sharp increase in the trash collection rate for homeowners and in sanitation fees charged to homes and businesses.
The rubbish collection rate will be increased to $10.55 a month from the current $7.20. The sanitation fee, currently $4.65 a month for residences and $20.80 a month for businesses, will nearly double to $9.69 for residences and $39.07 for businesses.
Sanitation fees pay for sewer maintenance, street sweeping, graffiti removal and code enforcement.
The combined residential rates will be increased in stages, beginning with a $2.09 raise Sept. 1 and an additional $2.10 in February and July 1992 and January 1993. Businesses will pay $9.13 more on Sept. 1 and an additional $9.14 starting Feb. 1.
Robert DeLoach, city public works director, said the increases are needed to help pay for rising landfill costs and $30 million in sewer system improvements.
