CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : EUREKA : 6.0 Pacific Quake Jolts Northern Coast

A moderate earthquake centered off the Northern California coast shook Humboldt County and parts of southern Oregon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The 6.0 magnitude quake was centered in the Pacific about 65 miles west of Crescent City, said USGS spokeswoman Pat Jorgenson. There were no reports of damage, Eureka Police Department spokeswoman Mary Anderson said. “We’ve had several phone calls from people saying they felt it,” Anderson said. “People said they had things in their home swaying.” No damage was reported in Oregon, where the quake was felt along the coast.
