PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Montoya Remains Questionable

Share

Guard Max Montoya, who sat out the Raiders’ last exhibition game against the Chargers because of a groin pull, is questionable for Sunday’s season opener against the Oilers at Houston.

Montoya practiced Wednesday, but Coach Art Shell said a decision on Montoya’s status won’t be made until later in the week.

There is also some concern about tailback Roger Craig’s left knee, which was bruised on the turf in San Diego. Shell said trainer George Anderson would devise a protective pad to cushion the knee against the artificial surface in the Astrodome.

The Raider practice squad has been set with running back Doug Lloyd, defensive backs Dennis Johnson and Tahaun Lewis, tight end Greg Harrell and offensive lineman Josh Taotoai. The players will each receive $3,200 a week and are free agents able to negotiate with any NFL team during the season.

Offensive lineman Newt Harrell, traded to Cleveland on Sunday, did not pass his physical with the Browns and returned to the Raiders, who released him.
