PORT HUENEME : Man Gets 6 Years for Molesting 2 Girls
A Port Hueneme man suffering from cancer was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday for molesting two adolescent girls.
Delmer Lee Stuart, 54, was convicted June 12 of four counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.
According to trial testimony, one of the molestations occurred in October, 1989, while Stuart was staying at a home in Ventura. The 11-year-old victim later wrote in her diary: “I sure hope he stops soon,” according to evidence presented at the trial.
The other victim, age 12, said she was molested while Stuart was a guest in another Ventura home. Stuart was arrested in September after one of the girls disclosed the assaults during psychological counseling.
Ventura County Deputy Public Defender Robert Willey told Superior Court Judge Allan L. Steele that Stuart, who has cancer of the esophagus, deserved the minimum term of three years in prison. The prosecutor, Deputy Dist. Atty. Gary K. Barrett, recommended eight years.
