Cal State Fullerton will attempt to slow an explosive offensive team when it plays Texas Tech tonight in Lubbock, Tex., at 5 p.m., PDT.

The host Red Raiders have eight offensive starters back from a team that averaged 29 points and went 4-7 last season.

Senior quarterback Jamie Gill, who led Texas Tech to a 9-3 record in 1989, is sound after missing 23 quarters because of an assortment of injuries last season, and he has one of the nation’s top receivers in Rodney Blackshear. Blackshear was an all-Southwest Conference selection who caught 44 passes for 973 yards and nine touchdowns in 1990. The Red Raiders’ ground attack is led by Anthony Lynn, who gained 884 yards and scored eight touchdowns last season.
