PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Tryout Is Given to Ex-Eagle Shaw

Share

Outside linebacker Ricky Shaw, who played for two years at Philadelphia under new Ram defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher, received a tryout at Rams Park and could be added to the roster this week.

For at least the next two games, the Rams will be without linebackers Fred Strickland and Frank Stams. Strickland’s left knee was injured during Sunday’s victory over the Giants; Stams has not played this season because of a leg injury.

Linebacker Terry Crews, a member of the Rams’ practice squad, and defensive tackle Ben Thomas, a free agent who was among the last players cut this summer, are also possible roster additions.

The Rams are concerned about Stams, the backup middle linebacker, because his leg has failed to respond to therapy. They are also unsure of the exact nature of the injury.

“We don’t know what to do,” Coach John Robinson said. “He’s got an injury that doesn’t get any better, and it’s killing him and it’s killing us. It’s a hamstring, thigh, bruise, combination pull and bruise, deep . . . damned if I know.

“I’m not (implying) that it’s psychosomatic or anything like that. It’s just been an injury where we say, ‘Yeah, he’ll be OK in a week.’ And we keep saying that week after week.”
