Video Rental Chart : ‘Home Alone’ Alone at the Top

Share

“Home Alone,” last year’s biggest box-office smash, has found a home, alone at the top of the Billboard magazine rental chart, moving up after a high-flying debut last week at No. 4. But it may not be calling the top spot home very long. The other red-hot rental, “Dances With Wolves,” just might take over next week. After entering the chart last week at No. 36, “Wolves” sprinted up to No. 4. Next week, it will at least climb to No. 2. These two are by far the most popular rentals, with nearly all the others--including the other three in the Top Five--all largely past their peak. There won’t be a flurry of new rentals to perk up the market any time soon. September is a notoriously slow month for rentals, so video companies won’t be putting out their top guns until next month.

* This romantic comedy, starring Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth Perkins, wasn’t big box office but it’s doing much better than expected in the rental market, jumping to No. 11 from No. 16 in its third week on the chart.
