SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Baseball, Football Vie

While the Dodgers and Atlanta Braves conclude the first of two crucial weekend series, sports television viewers will also have a chance to see the Rams, USC and UCLA football teams.

Baseball: KTTV Channel 11 and KFMB Channel 8 in San Diego will air today’s Dodgers-Braves game at noon. KTTV and cable’s Turner Broadcasting System will handle Sunday’s game at 11 a.m.

College football: UCLA (No. 21) will visit Tennessee (No. 11) today at 9:30 a.m. on TBS, with Prime Ticket airing a replay at 7:30 p.m. Unranked USC hopes to rebound from its opening loss to Memphis State when it will play host to Penn State (No. 5) at 6 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42. In other telecasts involving teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, Texas A&M; (No. 20) will take on LSU on Prime Ticket at 10 a.m.; Notre Dame (No. 7) will visit Michigan (No. 3) (12:30 p.m., Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42) and Florida (No. 6) will play host to Alabama (No. 16) (4:30 p.m., ESPN, 8:30 p.m. replay on SportsChannel).

Pro football: The Rams (1-1) hope to bring an end to the New Orleans Saints’ (2-0) best start in the 25 years at 5 p.m. on KCAL Channel 9 and cable’s TNT. In a schedule change, Channels 2 and 8 will air the Chicago Bears-New York Giants game at 10 a.m., instead of the San Francisco 49ers-Minnesota Vikings game. The Seattle Seahawks will meet the Denver Broncos at 1 p.m. on Channels 4 and 39.

Other sports: In hockey, the United States and Canada will play in the opening game of Canada Cup best-of-three championship series at 5 p.m. today on SportsChannel. In boxing, Julio Cesar Chavez will defend his WBC super-lightweight championship against Lonnie Smith. Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is scheduled to be an analyst. Also on the program, which begins at 7 p.m. on Showtime, is the WBC middleweight title bout between champion Julian Jackson and Dennis Milton.
