ROUNDUP : CLU Rallies for 3-2 Win in Soccer

Alberto Gutierrez’s goal with eight minutes remaining gave host Cal Lutheran a 3-2 win over Whittier College in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer match Wednesday.

Cal Lutheran (2-1-1, 1-0 in conference play) rallied from a 2-1 deficit with two goals in the final 15 minutes. Dave Rinehart’s goal tied the score, 2-2, with 15 minutes remaining.

Jeff Popour added a goal for Cal Lutheran, which outshot Whittier, 28-7.

In another men’s soccer match:

Westmont 4, The Master’s 0--Justin Wall and Jeff Hulseweh each scored two goals for Westmont (6-1) in an NAIA District 3 match.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Master’s d. Claremont, 15-6, 15-13, 15-8--Angie Davenport and Tami Offermann each had six kills to lead Master’s in a nonconference match at Claremont.

Golden West d. Pierce, 15-3, 15-6, 15-5--The defending state champion and No. 1-ranked Rustlers had little trouble with the visiting Brahmas.

COLLEGE WATER POLO

Valley 16, Mt. SAC 11--Robert Brown scored six goals and Steve Barron added five for host Valley (6-2-3) in a nonconference match. Valley goalie Brian Collins had eight saves.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Marymount d. Thousand Oaks, 16-14, 15-11, 15-4--Marymount rolled to the nonleague win over the Lancers (2-3) at Thousand Oaks.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Camarillo 20, Rio Mesa 40--Camarillo senior Bodie Minster placed first in 16 minutes 30 seconds over the three-mile course at Camarillo Grove Park in a nonleague season-opening meet.

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Camarillo 23, Rio Mesa 32--Rio Mesa’s Becky Shroyer timed 19 minutes 43 seconds for top honors in a nonleague meet.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Hart 12, Buena 6--Jodi Parker, Hart’s No. 1 singles player, won all three of her matches as the Indians (2-1) defeated host Buena (0-2).
