Unbeaten McKinney on Country Club Card

Share

Kennedy McKinney, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist, headlines Tuesday night’s boxing card at the Country Club in Reseda, putting his unbeaten record on the line against Vicente Gonzalez, who has a bad record but a good chin.

The featherweight bout is scheduled for 10 rounds.

McKinney is 17-0-1. Gonzalez, of San Diego, is 13-12-2 but has provided some of the more memorable bouts at the Country Club in the past two years, including a brawl--and another loss--against lightweight Rafael Ruelas of Arleta last year. In that fight, Ruelas hit Gonzalez with more than 50 hard punches to the jaw but could not put the stocky Gonzalez down.

In another bout, once-beaten middleweight Joey DeGrandis of Van Nuys will take on Ricky Sims of Los Angeles in a scheduled eight-round bout.

DeGrandis, a two-time New England Golden Gloves champion, is 11-1 with five knockouts. Sims is 5-5.

Also, heavyweight Mike Williams (16-2) of San Diego, whose only losses have come against former world champions Buster Douglas and Tim Witherspoon, will take on Lionel Butler (6-10) of Los Angeles in a scheduled six-round fight.

The card begins at 7:30 p.m.
