PLAY BALL: Tight budgets are the latest problem for high school sports (C6). In the Huntington Beach Union High School District, the cash crunch has forced a new version of baseball’s squeeze play for athletic programs. The first victim: Ocean View baseball Coach Steve Barrett, who was told he will have to teach five science classes at rival Huntington Beach High. . . . Barrett, who will still volunteer as a baseball coach at Ocean View, says: “I ask myself every day is this worth it. The only thing that keeps me going is the kids.”
