GOLF ROUNDUP : Jobe Moves Into Lead With a 67

Brandt Jobe, a former UCLA star who has missed the cut in 10 of his last 11 tournaments, shot a five-under-par 67 to take a two-stroke lead midway through the Southern Open at Pine Mountain, Ga., Friday.

Jobe, who had a 68 Thursday, is at nine-under 135 over the Callaway Gardens’ Mountain View Course to lead Larry Nelson and Lee Janzen.

Four others--Chris Perry, Mike Reid, David Sutherland and David Peoples--are three strokes back.

Nelson had a 68 in the second round and Janzen a 67.

Defending champion Kenny Knox shot 71 to move to 144.

Chi Chi Rodriguez took the first-round lead of the Seniors tournament at Lexington, Ky., with a round of five-under-par 67 that included seven birdies over the first 13 holes.

“This is my best round in a while. I made as many birdies in 13 holes as I did all last week,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez, whose round also included two bogeys, held a one-stroke lead over Jim Colbert, Miller Barber and J.C. Snead. Paul Moran, Gibby Gilbert and Don January were another stroke back at 69.

Two-time defending champion Rives McBee finished at 72 over the 6,744-yard Kearney Hill Links.

The golfers began the day with temperatures in the mid-40s, but by the afternoon it had warmed to a breezy 64.
