Ventura d. Bakersfield 15-11, 7-15, 15-4, 15-12--Candise Baker and Vanessa Hackett had 12 kills each to power Ventura College to a 15-11, 7-15, 15-4, 15-12 victory over visiting Bakersfield in a Western State Conference women’s volleyball match Friday.

Baker also had three aces and Hackett added four stuff blocks for Ventura (3-1, 2-1 in conference play), the defending tri-WSC champion.

“We played well,” Ventura Coach Sharon McAlexander said. “We seem to be on a little roll.”

Ashley Armstrong added seven kills and seven digs for Ventura, which swept Canyons on Tuesday after winning the Rancho Santiago tournament last weekend.

Pierce d. Moorpark, 15-11, 15-6, 15-13--Outside hitter Tracy Thorpe and setter Rebecca Bruso each had five kills for host Moorpark, which dropped to 0-3 in WSC play.

Pierce, which tied Ventura and Cuesta for the conference title last season, is 2-0 in conference play.

Cal Lutheran d. Christian Heritage, 12-15, 15-5, 15-11, 8-15, 15-10--Senior outside hitter Brenda Frafjord led the Regals (4-6) with 15 kills and nine aces in the match at Cal Lutheran.
