COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Five Scores, 412 Yards for Snowden

Share

Freshman Tim Snowden was a little off at times Saturday, but when he was on, he produced big-time results, and Saddleback College defeated El Camino, 36-8, in the Mission Conference opener in front of about 1,500 at Saddleback.

Snowden, a freshman from Mission Viejo High, completed only 14 of 32 passes, but those were good for 412 yards and five touchdowns. Three of his passes were intercepted. Only one completion was for fewer than 11 yards, and that kept a drive alive on fourth down.

Snowden combined with freshman receiver Dan Zamora for scoring plays of 51, 39, and 78 yards and also threw touchdown passes of 19 yards to tight end Julian Ford and 80 yards to Dave Poltl.

Saddleback led, 15-8, early in the fourth quarter when Snowden tossed a pass into the flat to Zamora, who broke two tackles and ran down the sideline to complete the 78-yard play.

Snowden and Ford connected with 10:07 left to give Saddleback a 29-8 lead. The final scoring pass, to Poltl, came with 5:40 left.

Saddleback (2-0) is ranked 17th in the J.C. Grid-Wire national poll. El Camino is 1-2.

Saddleback led, 15-0, at halftime, and it could have been more but El Camino’s Lamar Mickey intercepted a pass in the end zone.

Two minutes earlier, Saddleback had stopped El Camino on four plays from the Gaucho one.

Snowden and Zamora combined for two big-play touchdowns in the second quarter. The first was for 51 yards and gave Saddleback an 8-0 lead with 14:53 left in the half. The 39-yarder came 52 seconds later and was set up by a Beau LeBreton fumble recovery. The fumble was caused by Penn Bushong, who also had two interceptions in the half.
