Weber State Wins 63-59 Squeaker
Jamie Martin passed for seven touchdowns, including the game-winner with 16 seconds left, as Weber State beat Eastern Washington, 63-59, Saturday night.
The Big Sky Conference game’s 122 points was a Division I-AA scoring record for two teams and for a losing team. Both marks were set in Furman’s 63-55 victory over Davidson in 1979. The 17 touchdowns equaled the record set in that game.
Martin, who completed 33 of 51 passes for 440 yards, threw for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, two in the final 1:21. Eastern Washington’s Tim Mitchell ran for five touchdowns.
The Eagles (1-3) led, 59-50, with 3:26 to play. But Martin brought the Wildcats (3-1) back within two points when he hit Dave Hall with a seven-yard scoring pass. Weber recovered an onside kick and, five plays later, Martin passed 15 yards to Alfred Pupunu for the winning touchdown.
