Playing With Torches, a Guy Can Get Burned

Am I the only person who wants to gag when I hear Magic Johnson say for the umpteenth time how he will soon be passing the torch to Michael Jordan, just as Dr. J passed it on to him? Who elected him the official torchbearer of the NBA? And even if this were so, it isn’t his place to tell it. It would be refreshingly inspirational to see more aging superstars face the end with grace and style, in lieu of mealy-mouthed paeans to their former greatness.
