Detmer Lifts BYU Past Utah State
Ty Detmer ran for one touchdown and passed for two more in leading Brigham Young to a 38-10 victory over winless Utah State in a nonconference game Friday night.
Detmer completed 21 of 30 passes for 329 yards before leaving the game after three quarters. It was the 30th time he had passed for 200 or more yards, tying an NCAA record.
Detmer also extended his NCAA record of consecutive games with a touchdown pass to 29.
Fullback Peter Tuipulotu ran for a touchdown for BYU (2-3), and caught nine passes for 184 yards.
