A 62-year-old man was shot in a parking lot of San Buenaventura State Beach on Saturday afternoon by a man who may have killed a woman and dumped her body in Carpinteria last week, police said.

Investigators suspect that the attacker is the same person who shot and killed a woman whose body was found Thursday beside Casitas Pass Road, said Deputy Dan McCammon of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

The man injured Saturday was identified as Harold Johnson. He was grazed on the neck with a bullet about 12:15 p.m. at 901 San Pedro St. in Ventura, police said. He told authorities he had befriended the man who shot him.

The attacker fled the beach parking lot in a beige motor home with British Columbia license plates. The vehicle was described as having no ladder in the rear and may have a roof air conditioner, authorities said.

Johnson was treated and released from Ventura County Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said.

Police did not have any further details about how Johnson knew the suspect.

The female victim, who had not been identified, may have been a visitor from Canada, McCammon said. Authorities believe the killer fled in a motor home that fits the description of the vehicle that Johnson’s attacker used.
