Fire Sparks Sprinkler Debate

Share

In the front-page photograph of your Sept. 18 edition the gentleman being cared for in the wheelchair during the high-rise fire is my father, Edward Heatter.

Felix Salaues, the young man on the right, carried my father on his back from the 14th floor to the sixth, where they were met by a team of Beverly Hills police officers who took five seconds to size up the situation and began saving lives at the risk of their own.

On behalf of my father, as well as for our entire family, I want to publicly thank these officers in particular, and all people like them (including, of course, our Fire Department) for whom nights like this, and courage like this, are routine.
