Fullerton Plays Host to UNLV
Cal State Fullerton and Nevada Las Vegas will limp into a 1 p.m. Big West Conference game at Santa Ana Stadium today.
The Titans’ best offensive player, running back Reggie Yarbrough, has a sprained ankle and strained knee, and UNLV’s top offensive player, receiver/quarterback Hunkie Cooper, has a sprained ankle.
Yarbrough, who has rushed for 674 yards in 134 carries and scored four touchdowns, did not practice until Thursday. Cooper, an extremely quick senior who has rushed for 268 yards and passed for 221 yards, didn’t practice at all this week. But both are expected to play today.
Both Fullerton and UNLV played poor defense last week. The Titans, 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference, gave up 662 yards in a 56-28 loss to University of the Pacific.
The Rebels (2-3, 0-1) gave up 296 yards rushing to Cal State Long Beach in a 34-19 loss. The 49ers had averaged 38 yards rushing entering the game, but UNLV performed so poorly that defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano resigned after the game.
