Community’s Ideas for Arcadia Schools

Having attended all of the recent public hearings discussing the (Facilities) Task Force proposals (on the future of Arcadia schools), I have heard a tremendous sense of community being expressed. Some of Arcadia’s most talented citizens have shared their expertise. Community members who are senior citizens, attorneys, bankers, realtors, teachers, businessmen, students and parents have voiced positive alternatives to the Task Force proposals.

Suggestions to solve the overcrowding and financial considerations have included a parcel tax, a bond election, eliminating students attending Arcadia schools on permit, verifying addresses of present students to assure they are Arcadia residents and opening Santa Anita as an additional elementary school.

The sense of community being expressed at these hearings has said that alternative funding be investigated rather than the adoption of the Task Force proposals. Speakers have voiced that Arcadia is being forced into a financial corner by Sacramento. Interestingly, the citizens are asking that their Arcadia tax be increased! Increased solely for the education of Arcadia children! I support and pledge my efforts toward raising the funds to solve our educational problems.

If you have an alternative suggestion, please come to the final public hearing at First Avenue Junior High School, on Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. This will be your last chance to make your opinion known.
