In Sea View League girls’ volleyball:

Newport Harbor 3, Corona del Mar 1--Maureen McLaren had 18 kills and Tara Kroesch added 17 for the Sailors (11-4, 4-2), who avenged an earlier league loss to Corona del Mar (8-7, 5-1).

In South Coast League water polo:

Capistrano Valley 9, San Clemente 5--The Cougars (17-4, 3-0), ranked third in the county, overcame a 4-1 first-quarter deficit, to defeat San Clemente (18-3, 2-1), the county’s second-ranked team. Jeff Moloughney had three goals for Capistrano Valley and Jeremy Braxton-Brown added two, both in a five-goal third quarter at Capistrano Valley High.

Irvine 9, El Toro 8--Ryan Mulholland scored the winning goal as the Vaqueros (13-8, 2-1) defeated El Toro for the first time since 1986.

In Freeway League water polo:

Fullerton 7, Sonora 6--Mike Emery scored with 32 seconds left to break a 6-6 tie for host Fullerton (11-11, 1-2).

In Angelus League girls’ tennis:

Mater Dei 9, Rosary 9 (Mater Dei wins on games, 79-75)--The Monarchs (9-3, 4-2) dealt Rosary its first league loss behind sweeps from Erika Asmuss in No. 1 singles and the team of Trisha Abe and Kim Conter in No. 1 doubles. Asmuss and the Abe-Conter doubles team are undefeated this season.

In Century League girls’ tennis:

Foothill 14, Orange 4--Amanda Parson swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, to improve her record to 51-0 this season for Foothill (13-4, 8-0).

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Los Alamitos 13, El Dorado 5--The Griffins, ranked No. 1 in Southern Section 2-A, clinched their fourth consecutive Empire League championship. Renee Bergeron and Veronica Selby swept in No. 2 doubles, 7-6, 6-4, 6-0, for Los Alamitos (16-0-1, 8-0).
