ROUNDUP : San Fernando Runners Take Conference Title

Carlo Danor and Mike Krentzin of Taft High placed first and second in the Northwest Valley Conference boys’ cross-country final Thursday at Pierce College, but San Fernando walked off with the conference title by virtue of a tiebreaker.

Taft finished deadlocked with San Fernando with 51 points, but the Tigers were awarded the title because their No. 6 runner placed ahead of Taft’s sixth man.

Danor finished the three-mile course in 16 minutes 10 seconds, two seconds ahead of Krentzin. Jorge Sanchez of San Fernando placed third in 16:20.

In the girls’ race, El Camino Real edged Taft, 40-42. Jenny Armenta of Kennedy won the girls’ title in 19:31.

In another cross-country meet:

Hoover 22, Glendale 33--Margarito Casillas of Hoover set a school record of 14:44 in a Pacific League victory over the three-mile course at Verdugo Park. Casillas broke the Hoover mark of 14:57 set two years ago by former All-American Eliazar Herrera.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Canyon d. Antelope Valley, 15-9, 15-12, 15-5--Juli Mosier had 15 kills for Canyon (12-0, 8-0 in Golden League play).

Hart d. Schurr, 17-15, 15-11, 17-15--Shannon Martin had 13 kills for host Hart (5-6, 4-4) in a Foothill League match.

Newbury Park d. Camarillo, 15-7, 15-9, 15-10--Jenny Cameron had 16 kills for Newbury Park (8-6, 8-4) in a Marmonte League match.

Agoura d. Channel Islands, 15-1, 15-3, 13-15, 15-4--Jenny Tattersall had 10 kills for Agoura (10-4, 9-3) in a Marmonte League match.

Ventura d. Buena, 11-15, 15-3, 15-6, 15-11--Jesaca Lepper had 16 kills for visiting Ventura (10-2 in Channel League play).

Alemany d. St. Bernard, 8-15, 15-4, 15-5, 15-6--Wendy Dreher had 13 kills and Kelly McKay added 11 for Alemany (8-5, 5-3) in a Mission League match.

La Reina d. Oak Park, 15-9, 5-15, 15-6, 9-15, 15-12--Kristine Butler had 20 kills for Oak Park in a Tri-Valley League match.

Calabasas d. Santa Paula, 15-7, 9-15, 15-11, 15-7--Heather Foran had nine kills and Kristi Thomson had nine aces for Calabasas (8-5, 5-1) in a Frontier League match.

L.A. Baptist d. Montclair Prep, 15-3, 15-3, 15-0--Michelle Pistone had 13 assists for L.A. Baptist in an Alpha League match.
