TENNIS ROUNDUP : Wimbledon OKs Rain Checks
The All England Club, criticized for refusing to give refunds when play at Wimbledon was washed out, will issue rain checks in 1992.
If there is no play on the Centre Court or No. 1 and No. 2 courts, ticket-holders can get a refund or will be able to buy a similar ticket for the following year. And if there is no play before 6 p.m., spectators will be allowed to get back half their money.
Pete Sampras and Guy Forget reached the semifinals of the Paris Open, along with Michael Chang.
Sampras will play Chang, who defeated Petr Korda, who is eighth-seeded, 7-5, 6-1. Sampras, seeded sixth, beat Alexander Volkov, 6-2, 6-3. The other semifinal matches Jonas Svensson against the fifth-seeded Forget.
Francisco Roig, ranked 183rd, beat fourth-seeded Thomas Muster, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, in the $175,000 Kolynos Cup at Buzios, Brazil.
