PREP ROUNDUP : Santa Ana Valley Boys, El Modena Girls Win Titles

Santa Ana Valley won the boys’ team championship and El Modena won the girls’ Saturday in the Century League cross-country finals at Yorba Regional Park.

Santa Ana Valley’s Peter Reyes won the boys’ individual title, completing the three-mile course in 15 minutes 19 seconds, five seconds ahead of teammate Lucio Brito. The Falcons finished 24 points ahead of Villa Park.

El Modena’s Kristina Dahlberg finished second in the girls’ race, and the Vanguards placed three runners in the top nine to edge Canyon, 41-46. Kim Nelson, a Canyon sophomore, was the individual champion in 17:45, finishing nine seconds ahead of Dahlberg.

In Academy League eight-man football:

Liberty Christian 20, California Lutheran 14--Gabe Baltodano scored two touchdowns and rushed for 87 yards in 18 carries for visiting Liberty Christian (6-2, 3-1). Baltodano ran 11 yards for one touchdown and also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass.

Liberty Christian quarterback Carl Warmack’s two touchdowns came on only three completions. Dave Vacarro caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Warmack early in the fourth quarter for the game’s final score.

Wesley Wolf threw for two touchdowns for Cal Lutheran (5-3, 1-3), including a third-quarter 45-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Krug.

Liberty Christian defensive tackle Mike Hoggatt intercepted a pass in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Orange Lutheran 11, Claremont Webb 7--Lori Wright swept her three singles sets, and the host Lancers’ (12-5) top two doubles teams were 6-0.

In nonleague water polo:

San Clemente 14, Harvard-Westlake 11--Jeremy Laster scored with three seconds in regulation, and Sean Lane scored two of his game-high five goals in overtime as the host Tritons (21-3), ranked third in the Southern Section’s 4-A Division, defeated the Wolverines, ranked second in 3-A.

Corona del Mar 9, Long Beach Wilson 5--Austin Weir scored four goals, and goalie Robbie Pike had 12 saves, including a save on a four-meter penalty shot, for visiting Corona del Mar (22-2).

Los Alamitos 13, Mission Viejo 7--Randy Wright’s five goals led the host Griffins (15-10).

Marina 12, Fullerton 7--Matt Braun, Marina’s leading scorer, scored two goals for the host Vikings (14-10) at Golden West. Marina’s Mike Beauregard, Bob Wehenkle and John Kenyon each scored two goals.
