PREP ROUNDUP : Berkowitz Leads Fountain Valley to Tennis Title

Senior Michelle Berkowitz completed her second consecutive undefeated league season for the Fountain Valley girls’ tennis team, which defeated Edison, 11-7, to clinch the Sunset League title Monday at Edison.

Berkowitz won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, to run her league record to 36-0. She is 51-3 this season. Nina Basica won, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, and Nora Kapche won, 7-5, 7-5, 6-3, as Edison (13-5, 11-1 in league) swept in singles.

In another Sunset League match:

Marina 15, Westminster 3--The doubles team of Toowee Cao and Wendy Gratteau swept its sets to finish 36-0 in the league and 50-4 for the season for second-place Marina (13-7, 10-2). Westminster is 10-9-1, 4-5-1.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 11, Laguna Hills 7--Julie Schlosser and Jenny Drake swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1, for Estancia (9-1 in league), which clinched a tie for the league title with the victory at home.

Estancia and Laguna Beach, which defeated Trabuco Hills, 16-2, also Monday, tied with 9-1 records. The teams split their head-to-head meetings.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 11, University 7--The doubles team of Erika Anhood and Sara Cicerone swept its sets for Corona del Mar. Anhood and Cicerone went 41-4 for the season. Corona del Mar’s No. 1 singles player, Marcie Asch, tore cartilage in her ribs during her first set and was forced to withdraw from the match.

Newport Harbor 13, Tustin 5--Newport Harbor (13-7, 9-3) swept all three singles matches at home. Lindsay Olson won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2; Kamala RajKamar won, 6-0, 7-5, 6-0, and Jennifer Jacob won, 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.
