COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Beats Long Beach in Water Polo, 8-7

UC Irvine, the fourth-ranked water polo team in the nation, defeated fifth-ranked Cal State Long Beach State, 8-7, in a Big West Conference game Tuesday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.
Steve Gill scored three goals for Irvine (16-6, 5-1 in conference), including two in the fourth quarter, and Pablo Yrizar added two. Irvine goalie Andy Nott had 15 saves.
Mark Napier scored three goals for the 49ers (13-8, 5-3) and Mike Burke added two.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Biola 3, Christ College Irvine 0--Miriam Paulus had eight kills for host Christ College Irvine, which finished its season 10-22.
