ROUNDUP : Donaldson Leads Ventura in Volleyball

Erin Donaldson had a team-high 12 kills as the Ventura College women’s volleyball team solidified its hold on the Western State Conference lead with a 15-5, 15-2, 14-16, 15-11 win over Pierce at Ventura on Tuesday night.

Ventura improved to 15-0 overall, 14-0 in conference play with four matches remaining in the regular season, which concludes next week.

MEN’S SOCCER

Mission 2, Santa Monica 1--Matt Turner scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Armando Garcia with six minutes left in the match to lift host Mission (5-7-2, 3-3-1) to a Western State Conference win.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sylmar d. Los Angeles, 15-10, 16-14, 12-15, 15-13--Araceli Rodriguez had 17 kills for Sylmar (9-5) in a first-round match of the City Section 3-A Division playoffs at Sylmar. Ellen Johnson had 11 kills and 13 blocks for L.A.

Narbonne d. Poly, 15-6, 11-15, 15-2, 10-15, 15-11--In a two-hour match, Tami O’Dell had 13 kills, Maria Avalos added 12 and Carmel McLurkin added 10 for host Poly (6-5) in 3-A Division match.

Birmingham d. Fremont, 15-0, 15-11, 15-4--Tina Larson had 14 kills and Valery Vargas had eight service aces to lead Birmingham (9-5) in a 3-A Division match at Fremont.

Van Nuys d. Washington 15-4, 15-11, 15-0--Jenna Panatier had 12 kills for host Van Nuys (10-4) in another first-round match in the 3-A Division.

Chatsworth d. Gardena 15-9, 15-2, 15-2--Gigi Ghattas had seven kills to lead Chatsworth (10-4, 8-2) in a first-round 4-A Division match. Setter Heather Mitchell had 14 assists.

Cleveland d. Roosevelt, 10-15, 15-11, 15-2, 9-15, 15-11--Michele Diana had 14 kills and Janette Penfield added 10 kills for host Cleveland (11-3) in a first-round 4-A match.

Maureen Baldwin had nine kills for the winners.

El Segundo 7, Crespi 3--Kris Behrens scored two goals for host Crespi (11-13, 4-4) in a San Fernando League match.
