Hoover Reverts to Form in Loss to Arcadia, 24-0

Arcadia High outgained Hoover by nearly 200 yards Thursday and held the Tornadoes to minus-two yards passing in the first half en route to a 24-0 Pacific League football victory at Glendale High.

Hoover, coming off its first league victory in two years, continued to play tough in the first half Thursday and trailed just 10-0 at halftime. But Hoover managed only 27 yards--23 coming on one play--in the second half.

Arcadia gained 314 yards in improving to 5-3-1 overall, 1-2-1 in league play. Hoover, which gained just 120 yards and was shut out for the fourth time, fell to 1-8 and 1-3.

Hoover quarterback Nathan Dishington completed only one of five passes in the first half and finished five of 18 for 32 yards.

Jeremy Lewis picked off a Dishington pass to set up Arcadia’s first score, a 33-yard field goal by Steve Chiovare with three seconds left in the opening quarter.

Dean Giakas, who rushed for 96 yards, completed the first-half scoring on the receiving end of a three-yard pass from Kevin Schramm.

Schramm completed nine of 17 passes for 101 yards.

Chiovare, who gained 59 yards rushing, scored on an eight-yard run late in the third quarter and lineman Brian Coleman recovered a fumble in the end zone in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
