Apprehend, Griswold Finish Great Day for Legacy Ranch

From Santa Anita to Los Alamitos, the Legacy Ranch of Chino was one of California’s hottest barns Saturday.

Legacy owns Apprehend and Griswold, both of whom were winners in Saturday night’s Quarter Horse Breeders Classic program at Los Alamitos, and His Legacy, a winner in the afternoon in the California Cup series at Santa Anita.

Apprehend won the $182,250 Breeders Championships Classic for his third major stakes victory of the year and is the leading contender for world champion quarter horse. He ran the 440 yards in 21.67 seconds.

Griswold, the world-record holder at 870 yards, won his first race since February in the $32,100 Breeders Marathon Classic, one of nine stakes races on the Los Alamitos card.

Griswold led from wire to wire, winning the 870-yard yard race is 44.13, the second-fastest 870 ever. Griswold set the world record of 43.99 Feb. 1 while winning the Bull Rastus Invitational Handicap.

Bills Ryon won the $116,350 Breeders Juvenile Classic, running the 400 yards in 19.58 seconds, the fastest time at the distance during the meet.

Takin On The Cash won the Sprint Classic, Frisco Flare took the colts and gelding division of the Sophomore Classic and Shiny Six the filly division.
