Two reserves for the Miami Hurricanes, fullback Martin Patton and receiver Jonathan Harris, were suspended after a weekend incident in Coral Gables, Fla.
Patton was arrested early Sunday for fighting with police after arriving at the scene of a high-speed motorcycle accident involving Harris.
Patton said the fight was provoked by officers when they pushed him away from an ambulance that was transporting Harris, who was treated for scrapes and bruises.
Coach Dennis Erickson said the two players were suspended because they violated team policy. “This is not a decision that was made based on whether they are innocent or guilty by law,” he said. “That issue is separate from the fact that they violated team policy.”
