Brea-Olinda’s 30-0 Orange League victory over Anaheim Friday night offered little in the way of drama. And that’s just the way Brea wanted it.

Knowing that a victory would give them a third-place league finish and a Southern Section playoff berth, Brea (8-2, 3-2 in league) was determined to keep Anaheim (2-8, 0-5) from pulling off any miracles.

Brea’s offense rose to the occasion, limiting Anaheim to 54 yards in total offense.

Meanwhile, led by running back Paul Garcia’s 60 yards rushing and quarterback Jason Luevanos’ 125 yards passing, Brea put on a display of offensive efficiency that gave them confidence about their chances in the playoffs.

“Finishing up with two wins is just what we wanted,” said running back and kicker Marco Hernandez. “Right now, everyone is really positive.”

Hernandez had reason to be positive. He caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Luevanos to put the Wildcats ahead, 13-0, in the second quarter. He later kicked a 42-yard field goal to increase the lead to 16-0.

The Brea defense gave the Wildcats outstanding field position all night. Brea started six of its 11 drives from inside Anaheim territory, and scored on three.

Brea led, 23-0, at halftime, and scored its final touchdown with 8:34 remaining in the third quarter on a two-yard pass from Luevanos to tight end Dave Dean.
