Express Bus Service to Valleys Inaugurated
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation has inaugurated the first express bus service connecting the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys.
The service, which has been in operation for several weeks, consists of two parts--the department’s Line 549 from Encino to Pasadena and Foothill Transit District’s Route 690--providing east-west service along a 44-mile east-west corridor. The combined route has stops in Burbank, Glendale, Monrovia, Azusa, Glendora and La Verne.
Route 591 operates every 20 minutes on weekdays from 5:50 to 9:15 a.m. and 3:50 to 7:22 p.m. Fare is $1.50 to $2.70., depending on length of the trip. Currently, the route has one park-and-ride facility in Encino. Pasadena ‘s traffic manager, Serop Der-Boghossian, said that a major transportation center, including a park-and-ride facility, is planned in the near future.
