School: Dana Hills High

Sport: Football

Position: Running back

Class: Senior

Jenkins is a three-year starter for the Dolphins, so Coach Don Douglass is used to big things from the running back. But Friday, Jenkins surpassed expectations, running for 243 yards and six touchdowns to tie the school and Orange County single-game touchdown record set by Jim Gleed in 1979. “He was running well and, of course, some things opened up for us that haven’t previously,” Douglass said. “Some nights you get hot.” The onslaught started in the second quarter when Jenkins scored his first three touchdowns on runs of 23, 18 and one yards to turn a 12-0 Dolphins’ deficit into a 19-12 lead. Jenkins, who also plays cornerback, scored on runs of six, five and 71 yards in the second half and now has gained 1,084 yards this season. Douglass was especially impressed with the final touchdown. “It was a beautiful thing,” he said. “Losing two or three tacklers on a play is a common thing with Marcus, so you get used to it. He has excellent body control.”

Other top performers:

Eric Del Conte, who caught seven passes for 154 yards, including one for a 54-yard touchdown, in San Clemente’s 63-19 loss to Dana Hills.

Ofer Horn, who scored a total of 14 goals in Fountain Valley’s victories over Downey and Redlands in the first two rounds of the Division 3-A water polo playoffs.

Jason Minici, who passed for 210 yards and a touchdown in Irvine’s 17-13 victory over Capistrano Valley, which clinched the Vaqueros’ first South Coast League title.
