CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Raphael Gains 214 Yards as Kennedy Rolls Past Belmont

Elijah Raphael rushed for 214 yards and four touchdowns in 17 carries to lead host Kennedy High to a 54-0 victory over Belmont in the first round of the City Section 4-A Division football playoffs Friday night.

Raphael scored on a 45-yard run down the right sideline on Kennedy’s first possession to give the Golden Cougars a 7-0 lead. He added scoring runs of 12, 71 and 25 yards in the second quarter.

In the second round Wednesday, second-seeded Kennedy (10-1) will meet Lincoln, a 13-12 winner over Granada Hills on Friday.

Kennedy scored touchdowns on each of its first five possessions, and the defense accounted for two more touchdowns to give the Golden Cougars a 48-0 halftime lead.

Donte Scarbrough took over for Raphael late in the second quarter and gained 124 yards in seven carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 50 yards in the second quarter and 64 yards in the fourth.

Kennedy, which recorded its third shutout, limited Belmont (6-5) to 31 yards.
