OUTLOOK

Minutemen tied Cal Lutheran for championship (5-1) last season and should challenge again. Three returning starters, including top scorer Caruso (17 points per game), give Weddle an excellent core to build around. Caruso and center Grippo were first team all-league performers last season. Liberty also has top rebounder Coffman (11.7), a second-team all-leaguer returning. Cordero will miss the first month of play with an injured knee; her height will be missed. Brock, a transfer from Ocean View, will lend speed and quickness to the point guard position. Weddle lists his team’s strengths as quickness, outside shooting, ball-handling, team defense and good free-throw shooting. Lack of height and depth on the front line are Weddle’s main concerns.
