School: Laguna Hills High

Sport: Football

Position: Running back

Class: Senior

A lot was expected of Webber before the season started. “We knew he was going to have to be good at carrying the ball or we weren’t going to win my games,” Laguna Hills Coach Steve Bresnahan said. “It seems the more he gets the ball, the better he is.” Webber got the ball plenty Friday, carrying it 37 times for a season-high 267 yards and five touchdowns in Laguna Hills’ 38-6 victory over El Segundo in the first round of the Southern Section Division VII playoffs. Webber scored the Hawks’ first five touchdowns on two runs of one yard, two of two yards and one of three, and likely would have scored the sixth if he hadn’t left the game after being tackled at the El Segundo two after a long gain. Mike Boschenek then scored on a two-yard run.

Other top performers:

David Knuff, who caught six passes for 78 yards and three touchdowns and threw a 33-yard touchdown pass in Mater Dei’s 34-8 victory over Quartz Hill in the Division I playoffs.

Sean Lane, who scored seven goals in San Clemente’s 16-8 victory over Dana Hills in a Division 4-A water polo semifinal.

Chris Lynch, who finished third in 15:47 in the Division III race at Mt. San Antonio and led Laguna Hills to the Southern Section team title.
