Commissioner Fay Vincent, deputy commissioner Stephen Greenberg and management lawyer Louis Melendez testified for 8 1/2 hours at Otis Nixon’s grievance hearing in New York.

Vincent suspended the outfielder for 60 days on Sept. 16 after Nixon testing positive for cocaine. Nixon is attempting to reduce his suspension to time served, which is 42 days.

George Nicolau, baseball’s permanent arbitrator, is hearing the case, which began Nov. 17 with the testing of Dr. G. Douglas Talbott, a physician treating Nixon.
