Pomona : Court Evacuated in Fire
A fire that was started by construction work on an addition to the Pomona Municipal Court building filled the building with smoke and forced its evacuation on Wednesday morning.
Pomona Fire Battalion Chief Fred Morgan said the fire began when a welder unknowingly ignited an acoustic tile and left it smoldering.
The fire spread to a small area above the first floor ceiling, sending smoke into both floors of the two-story courthouse. Firefighters ordered the building evacuated, and prisoners awaiting court appearances were taken to the jail at neighboring Pomona Superior Court.
Morgan said there were no injuries, and most of the damage was confined to construction materials.
