Allegheny Streak Ends at 24 Wins
Bill Franks caught a four-yard touchdown pass in overtime as Dayton beat defending NCAA Division III champion Allegheny, 28-25, Saturday, ending the nation’s longest winning streak at 24.
Dayton (12-0), which had a 22-game winning streak ended by Allegheny in last year’s playoffs, advances to the semifinals on Dec. 7.
It was the first loss for Allegheny (11-1) since the final game of the 1989 season, when it was beaten by Rochester, 26-19.
Allegheny trailed, 23-7, at the start of the fourth quarter but forced the overtime on two touchdown runs by Damon Dosch. A two-point conversion pass from Ben Cammarano to Kurt Reiser tied the score with 5:38 to play.
