Police Car Tumbles Into 12-Foot Ditch

Share

Two Los Angeles police officers on a gang detail in Pacoima went underground Wednesday.

Literally.

Officers Frank Cerni and John Hardin were patrolling a construction site in an apartment complex in the 12600 block of Pierce Street near Glenoaks Boulevard about 6:30 p.m. when their patrol car fell nose first into a 12-foot ditch.

The officers had driven over the ditch, which was covered with plywood, while checking the construction area, Sgt. Joe Najera said.

“All of a sudden the floor dropped out from under them,” Najera said. “There were no barricades up. The only cover was the plywood.”

The officers were treated for minor injuries at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Najera said.

“They got a little banged up, but they’re fine. They crawled out of the car. They were wearing their seat belts,” Najera said. “They fell pretty far though. The only thing sticking out of the hole was the trunk of the car.”
