SANTA PAULA : 2 Hurt in Head-On Freeway Crash

A 79-year-old Fillmore man who was driving the wrong way on California 126 struck another vehicle head-on Thursday morning, Santa Paula police said.

Lewis Miller was driving west on the eastbound portion of the freeway near Peck Road when his car slammed into a car driven by Socorro Conchas of Oxnard, police said.

Miller was in satisfactory condition following emergency surgery at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Conchas, who complained of back and neck pains, was also taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, where she was in stable condition, the spokeswoman said.

More than 20 rescue workers from Santa Paula police and fire departments, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol worked for 45 minutes to free Miller from his car, Santa Paula police said.
