PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Time to Make a Statement
Defensive end Greg Townsend says the Raiders need to make a statement in Sunday’s game against Kansas City, which will face the Raiders in an AFC wild-card game the following week.
“We’ve got to try to leave an impression on them,” Townsend said. “We’ve got to go out and try to leave a lasting impression on them and let them know that next week isn’t going to be any simpler.”
Chief running back Christian Okoye, who has rushed for 999 yards in 217 carries, needs one yard to become the first Kansas City player to record two 1,000-yard seasons and 35 yards to break Ed Podolak’s career-rushing record of 4,451. Okoye had 1,480 yards in 1989 and has 4,417 career yards.
