BOY’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS : BREA-OLINDA TOURNAMENT : Titus Scores 27 to Lead Gahr to Victory Over Sunny Hills

Gahr’s returning All-Southern Section forward Brandon Titus scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Gladiators to a 75-58 victory over Sunny Hills in the championship game of the Brea-Olinda Christmas Tournament Monday night at Brea-Olinda High.

Titus, who was named tournament MVP, took the opening tip-off and dunked to give the Gladiators, who were defeated earlier this season by the Lancers, 75-61, a lead they never relinquished. Gahr improved its record to 10-3.

Sunny Hills (11-2), appearing in its third tournament final, rallied from a 47-34 halftime deficit to close the gap to 47-42 with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter, but Titus and center Wynton Cox spurred a 14-3 run and Sunny Hills never recovered. Terry Mann led the Lancers with 21 points, and teammate Brandon Haynes added 17 points. Cox had a game-high 11 rebounds.

St. John Bosco 68, Troy 65--James Cotton scored 28 points, including 13 in the first quarter, for St. John Bosco (8-4) in the third-place game. Troy’s Jim Falletta scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds. Randy Abbott added 25 points for Troy (8-5).

El Dorado 77, Centennial 65--Eric Hargrove scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds for El Dorado in the consolation championship.

Whittier Christian 84, Montclair 34--Mark Berokoff scored 23 points, including five three-pointers, for Whittier Christian. Jeff Rutter added 16 points for the Heralds (5-5).
